ANNUAL MEETING
MARCH 28, 2016 AT 6:30 PM
BENONA TOWNSHIP HALL

The annual meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM with all Board members present, except Burmeister, and 5 visitors in attendance. Following the pledge to the flag, a motion was made by Smith and supported by Schuyler to approve the minutes of the March 23, 2015 Annual meeting as written.  All members-aye, motion CARRIED.  The Treasurer reported the total amount of taxes collected and distributed to be $5,214,210.18.  Of that, the township share of taxes collected was $215,702.65, with $14,381.28 delinquent.  A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Schuyler to retain Shelby State Bank, Westshore Bank and Fifth Third Bank as our depositories for the General fund and Ramp fund and Capital One (formerly ING) for a Building Fund Savings or CD. Roll call vote: Schuyler-aye, Fleming-aye, Shaw-aye, Smith-aye; motion CARRIED.  A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Schuyler to continue to hold our regular meeting on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 PM. All members-aye, motion CARRIED.

Assessor’s report:  The Assessor reported on the percentage of change between 2015 values and 2016 values.  March Board of Review is finished. Michael and Brenda Beach are preparing for three Tax Tribunal hearings.

Cemetery report:  There were 7 lots sold last year, 2 lot transfers and 8 burials.  Four monument foundations were placed or replaced by the Township.

Fire Board report:  There were 140 runs in 2014, 23 of which were in Benona Township.  A copy of the annual report for the Fire Department was submitted to the Board by Smith.

Zoning Administrator’s report:  Airy gave an overview of his activities for 2015.  Permit activity for 2015 was as follows:  Regular Zoning permits-23, Critical Dune permits-17, Variance requests-2, Conditional Use permits-4, Sign permits-4, RV permits-38, Land divisions-6.  Total fees collected for permits:  $4,080.00.

Parks & Recreation/Township Maintenance report:  Dean Gentel reported that he has started resetting leaning and broken foundations, especially in the North cemetery on Johnson Road.  He has also been clearing broken lower branches and large bushes and has rebuilt the mower deck. Gentel also stated that most of the upgrading this year happened at the Baseball Diamond.

Final changes to the 2016-17 General fund budget, the 2016-17 Ramp fund budget, 2016-17 Shelby-Benona Fire District budget, 2016-17 Shelby Area Library budget, and the 2016-17 Salary & Wage Schedule were explained by the Clerk and discussed.

Questions were raised and comments were made by Larry Byl and Penny Butler. Byl provided a copy of the Golden Township Wages.  A motion was made by Smith and supported by Shaw to adjourn and the meeting was dismissed at 7:15 PM.
