ANNUAL MEETING
MARCH 26, 2018 AT 6:30 PM
BENONA TOWNSHIP HALL

The annual meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM with all Board members present and one visitor in attendance. Following the pledge to the flag, a motion was made by Smith and supported by Van Overbeke to approve the minutes of the March 27, 2017 Annual meeting as written. All members-aye, motion CARRIED. The Treasurer reported the total amount of taxes collected and distributed to be $5,255,505.26. Of that, the township share of taxes collected was $231,049.40, with $12,437.92 delinquent. A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Van Overbeke to retain Shelby State Bank and West Shore Bank as our depositories for the General fund and Ramp fund. Roll call vote: Van Overbeke-aye, Neuman-aye, Fleming-aye, Shaw-aye, Smith-aye; motion CARRIED. A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Neuman to continue to hold our regular meeting on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 PM, with the exceptions of the May meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, the December meeting, which will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 and the Annual and Regular meetings of March, which will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019. All members-aye, motion CARRIED.

Cemetery report: There were eleven lots sold last year, five lot transfers and eleven burials. Five monument foundations were placed and two and a half damaged trees were removed. Four lots were donated back to the Township.

Fire District report: Smith reported that the Fire Department had the fewest runs in 15 years in 2017. The fire barn underwent a facelift and a new air compressor was purchased.

Zoning Administrator’s report: Airy gave an overview of his activities for 2017. Permit activity for 2016 was as follows: Regular Zoning permits-34, Critical Dune permits-14, Conditional Use permits-1, Sign permits-8, RV permits-44, Land divisions-19, and Lot Line Adjustments-1. Total fees collected for permits: $4,590.00.

Final changes to the 2018-19 General fund budget, the 2018-19 Ramp fund budget, 2018-19 Shelby-Benona Fire District budget, 2018-19 Shelby Area Library budget, and the 2018-19 Salary & Wage Schedule were explained by the Clerk and discussed. One final adjustment was made to the General Fund budget, increasing the Cemetery budget to $20,000.00 in anticipation of purchasing a new zero turn mower.

A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Smith to adjourn and the meeting was dismissed at 7:10 PM.
