ANNUAL MEETING
MARCH 27, 2017 AT 6:30 PM
BENONA TOWNSHIP HALL

The annual meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM with all Board members present, except Van Overbeke, and 5 visitors in attendance. Following the pledge to the flag, a motion was made by Smith and supported by Neuman to approve the minutes of the March 28, 2016 Annual meeting as written. All members-aye, motion CARRIED. The Treasurer reported the total amount of taxes collected and distributed to be $5,223,602.70. Of that, the township share of taxes collected was $217,119.79, with $15,776.60 delinquent. A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Neuman to retain Shelby State Bank and West Shore Bank as our depositories for the General fund and Ramp fund. Roll call vote: Neuman-aye, Fleming-aye, Shaw-aye, Smith-aye; motion CARRIED. A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Neuman to continue to hold our regular meeting on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 PM, with the exception of December, which will be held on Tuesday, December 26th. All members-aye, motion CARRIED.

Assessor’s report: The March Board of Review went smoothly, with a total of 29 petitions.

Cemetery report: There were 3 lots sold last year, 2 lot transfers and 10 burials. Four monument foundations were placed and an overgrown tree was removed as requested by a lot owner.

Zoning Administrator’s report: Airy gave an overview of his activities for 2016. Permit activity for 2016 was as follows: Regular Zoning permits-37, Critical Dune permits-12, Variance requests-1, Conditional Use permits-0, Sign permits-9, RV permits-35, Land divisions-11, and Lot Splits-3. Total fees collected for permits: $4,510.00.

Parks & Recreation/Township Maintenance report: Dean Gentel retired last fall so there was no report.

Final changes to the 2016-17 General fund budget, the 2016-17 Ramp fund budget, 2016-17 Shelby-Benona Fire District budget, 2016-17 Shelby Area Library budget, and the 2016-17 Salary & Wage Schedule were explained by the Clerk and discussed.

A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Smith to adjourn and the meeting was dismissed at 7:10 PM.
