REGULAR MEETING

NOVEMBER 22, 2021 at 7:00 PM

BENONA TOWNSHIP HALL

The regular meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Fleming, with all Board members present except Van Overbeke, and three visitors in attendance. A motion was made by Smith and supported by Neuman to approve the agenda as submitted. All members-aye, motion CARRIED. The minutes of the October 25, 2021 Regular meeting were reviewed and a motion was made by Smith and supported by Neuman to approve the minutes as submitted. All members-aye, motion CARRIED.

Treasurer’s report: Neuman submitted a report on township financial standings for October. All income has been deposited and entered into QuickBooks. She continued collecting 2021 Summer Taxes, and all data was completed for Winter Tax bills and sent to KCI. Neuman prepared and printed the Mortgage Escrow reports. Neuman also met with Supervisor Fleming and Sara Bizon regarding the Zoning Administrator position and attended the Stony Lake Improvement Board special meeting. Tax distributions were prepared and mailed. A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Neuman to authorize payment of the bills in the amount of $27,078.09, with the addition of any late arriving bills. Roll call vote: Smith-aye, Shaw-aye, Fleming-aye, Neuman-aye; motion CARRIED.

Clerk’s report: The minutes of the Regular meeting were completed and the synopsis was sent to the local paper. Copies were sent to the Trustees and to Troughton for the website. Late arriving and time-sensitive bills were prepared. The budget for October was completed and all accounts were reconciled. The agenda, Profit & Loss report, checks, and checklist were prepared for the regular meeting. Shaw wrote a notice for the website and to be posted on the town hall doors regarding Bill Airy’s passing and ordered flowers for Marge, and also contacted the bank regarding Bill’s paycheck. Two cemetery sites were marked for burials and approval was given for a third when Shaw was in Ohio due to a death in the family.

Trustees’ report: None.

Fire Board report: Smith reported that there were 8 runs in October. All SCBA’s passed the annual inspection and three will need to be replaced. Bills totaling $2,151.59 were approved for payment.

Parks report: None.

Planning Commission report: The regular monthly meeting was held in spite of Bill Airy’s recent passing.

Supervisor’s report: Fleming reported that he monitors the roads, cemeteries, and parks regularly. He assisted Jon Zapolski and Dave Zoller with the removal and storage of the buoys, ladders and ramp from Stony Lake Swim Beach. The Stony irrigation pump and Evergreen Cemetery well were winterized and the new sign at the marina installed. He also assisted Jeremy Van Loon to jet down the Marina dock posts. He interviewed Sara Bizon for the position of Zoning Administrator. The 44th Ave. road project is completed.

Assessor’s report: The Assessor submitted a written report for November.

Zoning Administrator’s report: None.

Old Business: Supervisor Fleming discussed our future grounds maintenance with Rick Dykman of R & D Lawncare. The topic will be addressed at the December meeting.

New Business: A motion was made by Shaw and supported by Neuman to adopt a resolution to authorize a lot line adjustment for lots 3 & 4 of Lake View Plat in Section 31 of Benona Township. Roll call vote: Smith-aye, Shaw-aye, Fleming-aye, Neuman-aye; motion CARRIED. A motion was made by Neuman and supported by Smith to hire Sara Bizon for the position of Benona Township Zoning Adminstrator. Roll call vote: Neuman-aye, Fleming-aye, Shaw-aye, Smith-aye; motion CARRIED. Bizon’s hours will be 10:00 AM-2:00 PM on Wednesdays, and she will be available by phone Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.

 

Public Comment/Presentations: Jo Kelly was present and discussed a road drainage issue.

A motion was made by Smith and supported by Neuman to adjourn, and the meeting was dismissed

at 8:00 PM.
